Safer Cycling Routes on the Agenda in Overstrand towns

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde arrived by bicycle in Hermanus this morning to attend a presentation on safe cycling infrastructure, hosted by the Overstrand Municipality. The session, led by international cycling advocate Andrew Wheeldon – renowned for his work with governments worldwide – highlighted the need for safer, more accessible cycling routes in towns like Hermanus.

The visit forms part of broader efforts to promote active lifestyles, eco-tourism, and safe public infrastructure across the Overstrand.

Later in the day, Premier Winde and Overstrand Executive Mayor Archie Klaas took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly upgraded 800m bridge and footpath along the Hermanus Cliff Path. They were accompanied by Jobré Stassen of the Cliff Path Action Group and local residents who helped raise the funds and support needed to complete the project.

Winde praised the “great energy” behind the initiative and thanked the team and construction workers for delivering a truly special shared space.
